Job Summary:
The Controller is a collaborative finance leader who provides value-added financial and strategic guidance to the organization, through financial reporting, proactive financial analysis, maintenance of the internal control infrastructure and management of the Finance function.

Seeking an experienced accounting professional to help facilitate our future growth in a successful, but continuously growing asphalt and excavation business. This person will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversee and supervise day-to-day tasks of accounting personnel which include job cost, general ledger, cash, bank reconciliations, billing and collections, fixed assets, accounts payable, intercompany, account reconciliations, payroll, tax compliance related to payroll and sales/use tax, incentive calculations, income tax support schedules for corporate office, audit preparation, and interfacing with internal IT department to participate in the implementation of software relative to any accounting functions.
- Oversee and actively participate in the month-end closing process; review overall financials before distribution identifying discrepancies or variances; and provide financial support to executive staff of each operating group in the form of exception reporting and analysis.
- Assist with training of various accounting personnel.
- Assist with the improvement of all internal control accounting procedures
- Assist with the reviewing and approving of customer contracts.
- Financial Management: Manage all aspects of financial operations, including general ledger accounting, accounts payable and receivable, collections, and payroll.
- Reporting and Analysis: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analysis to support decision-making and provide insights to senior management.
- Compliance and Taxation: Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including sales tax returns and union benefits, and work closely with external auditors for annual audits.
- Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and enhance financial processes, systems, and controls to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high-quality work and professional development.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, procurement, and project management, to provide financial insights and support decision-making processes.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks, including analyzing WIP (work-in-progress) and ensuring proper control over project costs.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, and clients, to support the organization's financial objectives.
- Ad hoc Projects: Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by senior management, leveraging your financial expertise to drive business growth and success.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- B.S. Degree in Accounting; CPA preferred; minimum of 3-5 years experience in a similar role or in a role of progressive and increased responsibility in contract services and/or manufacturing environment; strong computer skills including proficiency in spreadsheets.
- Excellent organizational skills, strong work ethic, attention to detail, willingness to learn, and outstanding oral and written communication.
- Desire to take ownership of the accounting department and focus on making our accounting department a model of efficiency relative to continuous improvement servicing both our internal and external customers.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in using financial software and ERP systems. Experience with construction-specific software is a plus.
- Extensive experience in managing payroll, wage calculations, and union benefits.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

The intended salary range for this role is 140-165k with a 15-20% target bonus.
