An Investigator with Grand River Solutions’ primary responsibility will be to investigate allegations of sexual misconduct, sexual assault, harassment, discrimination, bullying, workplace misconduct, student code violations, and/or retaliation by students, faculty or staff of our client institutions, and to produce well-written, comprehensive reports regarding complaints.
Position Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Director of Resolutions Services, a Senior Title IX-EEO-Civil Rights Investigator primary responsibility will be will be to conduct resolutions and investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct, sexual assault, harassment, discrimination, bullying, workplace misconduct, student code violations, and/or retaliation by students, faculty, or staff of clients, and to produce well-written, comprehensive reports that include clear, comprehensive fact-finding and analyses as needed. Tasks will include interviewing parties/witnesses, collecting evidence, organizing evidence, making evidence available for review in keeping with client school procedures, and drafting high quality investigation reports within established timelines. Senior Title IX-EEO-Civil Rights Investigators will be expected to write in-depth analyses that include reliability and credibility determinations, fact-finding, and, when appropriate, policy-findings. Senior Title IX-EEO-Civil Rights Investigators may also be asked to engage in fact-gathering, crafting witness and/or evidence logs, and determining which facts are disputed or undisputed. Senior Title IX-EEO-Civil Rights Investigators are also expected to draft clear, understandable, and error-free investigation communications. Senior Title IX-EEO-Civil Rights Investigators may also be trained for, and asked to, conduct hearing and/or serving as a hearing panel chair or member of a hearing panel, and to draft high-quality hearing decision reports within established timelines, following client policies as well as GRS standards.
The Senior Title IX-EEO-Civil Rights Investigator is expected to follow relevant client policies and procedures at all times, while also adhering to GRS practices for investigations and other resolutions. The Senior Title IX-EEO-Civil Rights Investigator may also be asked to serve as an informal resolution officer, hearing panel member, hearing advisor, or otherwise assist with other elements of a client’s complaint response and resolution process. Interested Senior Title IX-EEO-Civil Rights Investigators may also be trained for, and conduct, administrative hearings, as well as to write comprehensive hearing reports.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Draft essential, error-free correspondence related to processing of complaints.
- Engage in informal resolution practices to address complaints, concerns, or allegations when appropriate, and document accordingly.
- Conduct prompt and thorough investigations, including development of an investigative plan, identifying, and interviewing witnesses, gathering and securing information and data, keeping accurate and thorough records and notes of the investigatory process.
- Understand and adhere to Grand River Solutions standards and processes for investigations, resolutions, and report writing.
- Follow any policies or procedures as set forth by client institutions, including timelines.
- Conduct interviews, take accurate notes, and draft interview summaries.
- Ability to independently determine appropriate questions to ask, information to document, and communications that may be necessary for any resolution process, with approvals as may be required by GRS processes.
- Ask appropriate questions during interviews to gather information about allegations of misconduct, discrimination, retaliation, or harassment.
- Be able to identify and distinguish between evidence that is directly related and/or relevant.
- Prepare comprehensive timely written reports, including in-depth analyses.
- Prepare for and participate in meetings, hearings or grievances related to results of investigations.
- Stay abreast of regulations and statutes relating to discrimination, retaliation, harassment, sexual misconduct, and gender-based violence including, but not limited to, Title II, Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the ADA, the FMLA, VAWA, and the Clery Act.
- Work with confidential and highly sensitive information and maintain confidentiality in compliance with client school policies, procedures, and state and federal regulations.
- Maintain an appropriate professional demeanor at all times.
- Complete other tasks and projects as assigned, which may include drafting interview summaries or resolutions correspondence for others, conducting informal resolutions, appeals, participating as a hearing panel member or hearing officer, and related duties as may be assigned.
Occasional travel may be required.

- Familiarity with laws, regulations, and guidance important to the education environment, e.g., Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the ADA, the FMLA, VAWA, and FERPA.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Google Mail, Google Docs, Excel, Power Point, Adobe, and similar software.
Required Minimum Qualification
- 5 or more years of investigation experience, with particular focus on Title IX, sexual assault, sexual misconduct, civil rights, or similar discrimination complaints, or equivalent experience.
- At least two years of experience working in an on-campus position, either in K-12 or higher education.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- A writing sample and completion of a writing test will be requested from those under consideration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience conducting administrative (campus) hearings
- Experience in conflict management
- Two years experience in a relevant campus role
- Training in investigation techniques
- Training in Title IX and/or Title VII and/or Civil Rights Investigations, trauma and in sexual assault investigations
- Experience developing and delivering training
Salary
GRS has different base pay ranges for different locations within the United States, which allows us to pay employees competitively and consistent with different geographic markets. Compensation offered will depend on various factors in addition to location of primary residence, such as job level, complexity and responsibility required by the role, knowledge, job duties and requirements, relevant experience, and skills.
Pay Ranges for Applicants in CA, CO, and WA
The pay range for this position in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, and New York City is $130,000 - $160,000. For those who are elsewhere in California, the range is $80,000 - $145,000. For those based in Colorado, the range is $80,000 – 145,000. For those based in Washington State, the range is $65,000 - $160,000. As noted above, all of these pay ranges depend upon specific location, knowledge, relevant experience, background, and skills
