Title IX, Equity, EEO, and Conduct Specialist - Remote

This position is part of a larger team of Title IX and equal opportunity professionals who assist our clients with their compliance obligations under Title IX of the Education Amendments of the 1972 Civil Rights Act, Titles VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Violence Against Women Act of 2013, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation act, other related federal and state laws, as well as with specific institutional guidelines related to student conduct.  This position is a split role designed to balance both immediate support for institutions in managing race, color, and national origin discrimination issues, with long-term professional development in gender equity and broader compliance roles. The individual in this position will be expected to spend approximately 50% of their time handling complex student conduct matters, providing expert support and guidance on Title VI compliance for colleges and universities; and the other 50% of their time will be spent as a member of a Title IX/Equity team in intensive learning and on-the-job training in Title IX, Title VII and other equity responsibilities with the goal of transitioning to a role where 100% of the responsibilities will be in Title IX, Title VII, and other equity responsibilities.

Summary of Responsibilities:
Title VI and Student Conduct Support (50%) 
  • Provide expert consultation to colleges and universities on compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, focusing on preventing and addressing discrimination based on race, color, and national origin. 
  • Work with other Grand River Solutions staff to assist institutions in developing, implementing, and revising policies to ensure they meet Title VI standards. 
  • Oversee the resolution of Title VI and other complex student conduct complaints, ensuring fair and equitable processes. 
  • Provide training and education to campus stakeholders on Title VI compliance and best practices for fostering an inclusive environment. 
  • Stay abreast of trends in student conduct and provide recommendations for improving campus climate and safety.  
  • Analyze client data and provide recommendations for prevention education and improvements to campus climate and safety. 
 Title IX/Equity Support (50%) 
  • Engage in comprehensive training programs focused on Title IX compliance, including case management, case intake, response protocols, and communications practices. 
  • Become familiar with regulations and statutes relating to discrimination, retaliation, harassment, sexual misconduct, and gender-based violence including, but not limited to, Title II, Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the ADA, the FMLA, VAWA, and the Clery Act. 
  • Shadow experienced Title IX Coordinators and Equity Officers to gain hands-on experience in managing sex/gender discrimination cases, including sexual harassment and sex assault cases. 
  • Participate as a member of a GRS service team providing Title IX Coordinator services in accordance with an institution’s policies and procedures, and GRS best practices.  
    • Assist with the development and delivery of trainings related to harassment and discrimination, responsible employee obligations, and prevention.
    • Assist more senior GRS Title IX/Equity staff members in improving the overall functioning of clients’ Title IX and equity departments as well as prevention efforts. 
    • Assist with gathering and securing information and data, keeping accurate and thorough records and notes of the response and resolution processes.
  • Take notes during party/witness interviews and client meetings, and draft meeting summaries or file notes. 
  • Prepare for and participate in meetings, hearings or grievances related to equity concerns handled by the client. 
  • Properly maintain client data according to each client’s expectations and standards.
  • Adhere to Grand River Solutions standards for performing Title IX and equity work.
  • Follow any policies or procedures as set forth by client institutions, including timelines. 
  • Assist with the drafting of essential correspondence related to processing of complaints. 
Additionally: 
  • Work with confidential and highly sensitive information and maintain confidentiality in compliance with client school policies, procedures, and state and federal regulations. 
  • Maintain an appropriate professional demeanor at all times. 
  • Complete other tasks and projects as assigned. 
 Required Qualifications 
  • Two or more years demonstrated experience serving as a Title VI (or student conduct) professional, Title IX Deputy Coordinator, Coordinator, and/or EO Officer 
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, and to bring about consensus among groups possessing diverse opinions 
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in working with a wide range of policies in the higher education environment 
  • Experience conducting or overseeing investigations or other forms of complaint resolution and appeals 
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize projects, establish and/or maintain documentation and recordkeeping standards consistent with best practices, and manage multiple/competing deadlines and priorities 
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize projects for completion in a timely manner 
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and institutional policies related to student conduct and Title VI 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds 
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and /or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Experience as a Title VI (or student conduct) professional, Deputy Title IX Coordinator, or Equity Officer at more than one educational institution 
  • Experience conducting investigations or alternative resolutions 
  • Experience conducting trainings for students or faculty in an educational institution on topics relating to harassment or discrimination 
  • Master’s degree 
Salary 
GRS has different base pay ranges for different locations within the United States, which allows us to pay employees competitively and consistent with different geographic  
markets. Compensation offered will depend on various factors in addition to location of primary residence, such as job level, complexity and responsibility required by the role,  
knowledge, job duties and requirements, relevant experience, and skills.  
 
The pay range for this position in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, and New York City is $84,000 - $105,000. For those who are elsewhere in California, the range is $52,000 -  
$84,000. For those based in Colorado, the range is $52,000 – $94,500. For those based in Washington State, the range is $52,000 - $105,000. As noted above, all of these pay ranges  
depend upon specific location, knowledge, relevant experience, background, and skills.
