Payroll, Compliance and Benefits Specialist - Remote

Key Responsibilities


Payroll Management: 
  • Process semi-monthly payrolls for all employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and changes to employee data.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies and respond to employee payroll inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with all payroll tax reporting requirements and deadlines.
  • Collaborate with the finance department to reconcile payroll accounts.

Compensation Administration:
  • Administer compensation programs that align with the company’s pay philosophy and market competitiveness.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of pay structures, salary bands, and incentive programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable compensation laws and regulations, including FLSA.

Benefits Management:
  • Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, 401k plan, wellness programs, and other voluntary benefits.
  • Coordinate with benefit vendors to manage plan renewals, enrollments, and changes.
  • Educate employees on available benefits, assisting with enrollment and resolving any benefits-related issues.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state benefits regulations, including COBRA, HIPAA, and ACA.
  • Analyze benefits utilization and costs, making recommendations for plan design changes or cost-saving measures.

HRIS and Reporting:
  • Maintain and update employee records in the HRIS, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
  • Generate and analyze reports related to payroll, compensation, and benefits, providing insights and recommendations to HR leadership.
  • Assist with the implementation and management of HRIS projects, including system upgrades and new module rollouts.

Qualifications:
 
  • 5-7 years of experience in payroll, compensation, and benefits administration.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll laws, compensation practices, and benefits regulations.
  • Experience with HRIS and payroll systems, such as Paylocity, ADP, or similar platforms.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Preferred Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field preferred[JG1] .
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), Certified Employee Benefits Professional (CEB) or Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation.
  • Experience in a multi-state or national organization.
  • Familiarity with project management principles and practices.

Salary
 
GRS has different base pay ranges for different locations within the United States, which allows us to pay employees competitively and consistent with different geographic markets.  Compensation offered will depend on various factors in addition to location of primary residence, such as job level, complexity and responsibility required by the role, knowledge, job duties and requirements, relevant experience, and skills.  

Pay Ranges for Applicants in CA, CO, and WA 

The pay range for this position in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, and New York City is $80,000 - $100,000.  For those who are elsewhere in California, the range is $45,000 - $85,000.  For those based in Colorado, the range is $45,000 – 85,000.  For those based in Washington State, the range is $65,000 - $100,000.  As noted above, all of these pay ranges depend upon specific location, knowledge, relevant experience, background, and skills.
