Field Service Technician - Crete, IL/Hybrid

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Safety 
  • Promotes divisional safety objectives and goals. 
  • Ensures mechanical / electrical safety devices on units are maintained / implemented.
Customer Service
  • Act as a primary contact to provide technical assistance via telephone, email or onsite service calls to support customers per service agreements. 
  • Be able to locate, use various operation / maintenance manuals, drawings, schematics to troubleshoot improperly functioning equipment and restore to service.
  • Follow-up coordination of parts, documents (drawings) resulting from service calls.
  • Find OFI’s to improve fleets overall operations and customer service.
  • Ensure customers receive parts and materials when ordered from Crete on timely basis to maintain service.
  • Develop personal thru teaching troubleshooting & effective maintenance techniques.
  • Develop, document & deliver training courses to Ops Team at various times.
Equipment
  • Support commissioning of new / overhauled units to service.
  • Work closely with suppliers to resolve equipment problems and improve uptime ratio’s and life cycle cost improvement.
  • Manage spare parts lists, maintain control of critical spare parts and assist in setting appropriate inventory levels to meet field needs, while managing costs.
  • Participate /lead in efforts to improve equipment design in current and new units and achieve a level of standardization and improvement.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time both domestically and internationally via ground, air and rail.
  • Ability to walk on rough uneven surfaces within railroad environment, climb vehicle ladders, walk on inclines, and work on units in the field or shop.
  • Able to work in confined spaces under and around equipment.
  • Able to work varying shifts.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  • Indoor office environment.
  • Exposure on a regular basis to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Exposure to grease and dirt conditions.
  • Exposure to extreme weather conditions.
  • Exposure to railroad operating conditions (PPE Required).
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required. Technical college education or documented qualifications are desirable.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in assembly or field service position with mechanical, hydraulic and electrical knowledge in troubleshooting various hydraulic / electrical control systems and equipment.
  • Bi-Lingual in English and Spanish strongly desired
  • Ability to understand and follow electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems from a distance with operating employees.
  • Working knowledge of proper use of diagnostic instruments and measurement tools.
  • General computer knowledge. PLC programming knowledge is an asset.
  • General knowledge of railroad operations / standards / practices related to Track Testing.
  • Committed to customer service and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to develop, document and deliver training materials and courses for employee development.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Must maintain a valid Driver’s License and Passport and abide by our Corporate Fleet Policy
  • Ability to successfully complete all pre-employment testing required by Holland, L.P.
