Engineering Intern (On-Site) - University Park, IL

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
  • Generate innovative ideas for new products and improvements to current product offerings.
  • Build and execute test plans and then analyze and report findings to internal teams.
  • Develop technical expertise in manufacturing processes through part inspections and investigation into non-conformances.
  • Generate ideas for process improvements to increase efficiency in the HoTT manufacturing area.
  • Make changes to 3D models and 2D drawings, as needed, to maintain engineering documentation on projects.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  •  Ability to lift to 75 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Willingness to wear PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toed boots) as needed.
  • Ability to crouch, bend, stoop, hand/finger dexterity.
  • Vision must be sufficient for imputing data into a computer.
  • Keyboarding skills that reduce the risk of carpal tunnel and other office related injuries.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  •  Office/cubicle environment and laboratory environment/occasional home office
  • Shop environment including assembly, welding, overhead cranes, and fork trucks.
  • Possible field work in a railroad yard and/or customer facility.
  • Work in all weather conditions, if needed for project.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  •  Must be at least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or GED
  •  Pursuing a BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  •  Ability to maintain confidentiality with dealing with personal and protected information.
  •  Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
  •  Ability to multi task and prioritize your work flow.
  •  Passion for innovation and building systems from the ground up
  •  Self-starter attitude with the ability to work independently
  •  Intermediate MS Office skills including Excel, Word and Power Point.
  •  Intermediate experience in Solidworks, or similar 3D modeling software
  •  Efficient at communicating both written and verbal.
  •  Ability to successfully complete all pre-employment testing required by Holland, L.P.
  •  Must be able to maintain a valid driver’s license and abide by our Corporate Fleet Policy.
