Materials Manager - University Park, IL

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
  • Direct the HEBU Materials and Warehousing staff to meet established objectives
  • Manage cycle count program to ensure inventory accuracy 
  • Provide world class strategic planning and sourcing options
  • Identify, select and manage key strategic suppliers for best in safety, quality, delivery, and cost
  • Manage key vendor performance metrics in support of overall strategies
  • Develop and maintain strategic supplier relationships and improvement initiatives
  • Generate and maintain all formal, legal purchasing agreements
  • Manage key purchasing/warehouse department metrics including:
    • Managing critical min/max items in inventory 
    • Inventory turns 
    • Annual material cost reductions 
    • Vendor delivery and quality performance
  • Develop and manage department annual budget
  • Manage the purchasing and warehousing group staffing requirements, performance reviews, development and improvement initiatives
  • Travel to vendor locations and other site(s) as required, including international travel
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time, some international travel may be required
  • Willingness to wear PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel toed boots) as required  
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  • Office/cubicle environment
  • Shop environment including assembly, welding, overhead cranes, and fork trucks
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Materials Management. Master’s degree is highly preferred
  • Ten years of supply chain management experience
  • Minimum of five years of department management experience
  • Knowledgeable with the application of Lean/Six Sigma concepts
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Outstanding customer service approach
  • Experience in formal quality assurance system setting (ISO or equivalent)
  • Strong negotiation and management skills; effective in influencing others
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical skills and an innovative approach to problem solving
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Must maintain a valid passport
