SimX is a fast-growing startup bringing virtual and augmented reality to medical simulation training. Our product is the first comprehensive professional-grade VR medical simulation system, and it is used by our customers to train physicians, nurses, paramedics and other allied health professionals. THE JOB
We are seeking a talented UI Designer to create intuitive and engaging digital user interfaces for our core applications. As our first dedicated UI Designer, you will work closely with Product leadership and collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate complex business requirements and user stories into innovative design solutions for our advanced medical training software. This role requires rapid prototyping and iteration within an agile development framework to translate user insights into high–fidelity designs.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience in user interface design for desktop and web, and a strong portfolio showcasing this work. Experience designing for AR/VR interfaces is a plus. You have a strong understanding of accessibility requirements, Design Systems, user testing processes, and Figma proficiency. You're a detail-oriented and collaborative self-starter committed to design excellence.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with Product leadership to create intuitive and visually appealing user interfaces for SimX Platforms (including, but not limited to: desktop and VR/AR simulation platforms, web applications, desktop applications, software management application, and company website)
  • Translate business requirements and user stories into clear user flows
  • Create design deliverables including concept sketches, wireframes, mockups, prototypes, presentations, and documentation to communicate design ideas effectively
  • Ensure consistency in design elements such as typography, iconography, color, branding, and imagery
  • Provide detailed design specifications and documentation to engineering for implementation
  • Create and maintain designs that align with company and product brand strategy
  • Participate in Agile development processes, including planning, testing, and post-launch support
  • Participate in or conduct usability testing, gathering user feedback, and iterating on designs
  • Contribute to understanding and utilizing user data to inform design decisions
  • Stay current with UI trends, technologies, and tools, including incorporation of AI into workflows

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • 3+ years of professional experience in UI or UX design, with a focus on UI design for desktop and web
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in art, graphic/digital/web/interaction design, or equivalent work experience
  • Proficiency in design tools, specifically Figma
  • Understanding of Design Systems, reusable components, and design patterns
  • Proficiency in accessible design
  • Strong understanding of typography, color theory, and layout principles
  • Experience or strong interest in incorporating AI into UI design work
  • Experience with fluid and responsive design
  • Familiarity with 2D/UI design for VR/AR platforms (HTC Vive, Valve Index, Oculus Rift/Quest, Gear VR, Hololens)
  • Experience designing for a global audience
  • Experience with task-tracking tools like Asana or Jira
  • Experience with Google Suite (Drive, Sheets, Docs, Slides)
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Permanent residence in the United States
  • A portfolio showcasing your design process, projects, and outcomes is required for consideration
This is a full-time, remote position. Candidates must live within the United States. In addition, candidates will also be expected to attend major simulation conferences and/or in-person closing meetings potentially as frequently as monthly.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with 3D design software and principles
  • Familiarity with interaction design for VR/AR platforms (HTC Vive, Valve Index, Oculus Rift/Quest, Gear VR, Hololens)
  • Familiarity with 2D and interface design in Unity
  • Understanding of user experience (UX) principles and methodologies
  • Experience with UX design, product design, and/or interaction design
  • Familiarity with medical or educational content
  • Experience supporting a VR or AR product that has been deployed to customers
  • Experience writing functional and/or technical specifications for developers or quality assurance teams in the software industry
  • Experience making decisions in a complex and occasionally ambiguous environment
  • Experience working at a startup-like environment
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for work

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Target salary range: $70,000-100,000 annually; commensurate with experience
  • Remote work environment
  • SimX covers 99% of employee premiums and 50% of dependent premiums for medical, dental, and vision
