Job Summary:
The General Superintendent supports the successful execution of excavation projects by aligning equipment, labor, and logistics to meet operational goals. This role serves as a strategic partner to the excavation superintendents, helping forecast needs, optimize resource utilization, and support leadership development across the field team. This position currently reports to the Operations Manager and is intended to grow into a leadership role with direct oversight of all Illinois-based excavation superintendents.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Support excavation superintendents with equipment, labor, and logistics coordination.
- Forecast equipment and labor needs for current and upcoming contracted jobs.
- Manage on-site rental equipment utilization to ensure efficiency and cost control.
- Collaborate in evaluating equipment lifecycle and support decision-making for equipment purchases or disposals.
- Assist in the hiring, training, and development of new field leaders within the excavation team.
- Serve as a key liaison between field operations and senior leadership to ensure alignment and communication.
- Prepare for future expansion of supervisory responsibilities to include direct oversight of Illinois excavation superintendents.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Strong understanding of excavation operations, including equipment and manpower planning.
- Proven ability to forecast resource needs and manage logistical challenges across multiple job sites.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially across field and office personnel.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and support the development of the field leaders.
- Strong decision-making skills related to operational efficiency and equipment management.
- Proficiency in using project tracking tools, spreadsheets, and field operations software preferred.
Education & Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in excavation, civil construction, or related field operations.
- Prior experience in a supervisory or support role preferred.
- Experience with equipment procurement, rental utilization, and workforce planning strongly desired.
- Leadership development or training experience a plus.

This role is targeting a range of $125k-175k and is eligible for the company's incentive bonus program.
