Regional Safety Specialist - Canada Nationwide

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Deliver field safety start up meetings for large groups of employees and rail gangs that cover off all company and client policies and procedures
  • Perform field safety engagements regularly on all crews and prepare for and participate in all audits such as 18001 and COR
  • Complete routine field assessment on MOW operations against Holland’s Risk Matrix to identify at risk behaviors and/or equipment deficiencies
  • Develop action plans to address field trends based on assessments and properly train and communicate plans within operations management teams
  • Regularly review and be familiar with all applicable legislation and applicable standards to ensure compliance
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, guidance and training to field teams and fixed locations
  • Ensure new hires accurately trained and ensure all employees complete all designated training modules on schedule
  • Assist with revising and developing internal safety and training programs
  • Review and develop site specific safety plans, JSA’s, SWP’s, JHA’s etc.
  • Perform incident investigations, identify contributing factors, root cause analysis and develop and implement corrective actions
  • Communicate Safety successes, near miss details and trend analysis findings to senior leaders
  • Lead safety conference calls for all employees on a regular basis
  • All other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to walk for prolonged periods of time on uneven surfaces such as railroad track areas, rough surface jobsites, etc. 
  • Ability to conduct repetitive motions in an office environment such as sitting, typing, computer use, etc. 
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and on and off heavy trucks and equipment
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and otherwise get around indoor, outdoor, railroad track, and other general work areas and equipment
  • Vision must be sufficient for driving and for conducting safety audits and inspections
  • Ability to travel up to 75% via rail, automobile and airplane
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  • Exposure to outdoor conditions, including inclement weather, when conducting site visits/audits/training, etc. 
  • Exposure to dust/fumes/mist, grinding particles, smoke, and particulates consistent with welding, grinding, and heavy industrial work
  • Must be able to do shift work and work irregular hours, including weekends as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Occupational Health & Safety degree, diploma, certificate or CRSP preferred
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the rail construction and maintenance industry 
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering Safety Trainings in large group settings
  • Demonstrated experience taking Track Protection 
  • Proven knowledge of accident investigation fundamentals 
  • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft suite of products, most notably Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must maintain a valid Drivers License and abide by our Corporate Fleet Policy
  • Must be able to successfully complete all pre-employment testing required by Holland L.P.
