Job Summary:
The Project Engineer supports the successful delivery of heavy highway and sitework construction projects by assisting with documentation, scheduling, field coordination, and subcontractor management. This role is foundational within the project management career path at Curran, providing hands-on learning while contributing to project execution. Project Engineers work closely with Project Managers and Senior Project Managers, gaining exposure to the full project lifecycle while developing the technical, financial, and leadership skills necessary to grow their careers.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Support project setup activities, including maintaining logs and documentation.
- Assist with RFI, submittal, and correspondence tracking.
- Assist Project Managers in developing schedules.
- Update and track weekly site schedules as directed.
- Conduct weekly site visits to observe progress and verify compliance.
- Support field teams with project documentation and communication.
- Assist with cost code tracking and time entry.
- Learn fundamentals of cost monitoring and reporting.
- Help log subcontractor documentation and send purchase orders.
- Support PMs in tracking subcontractor compliance.
- Draft and support project correspondence under PM guidance.
- Gain exposure to client communications and official documentation.
- Learn how to identify changes in scope.
- Assist in drafting basic change requests.
- Actively participate in mentorship and training provided by PMs and Senior PMS.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with project teams, subcontractors, and clients.
- Willingness to work both in the office and on job sites in varied weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs, walk and stand on uneven surfaces, and enter/exit vehicles regularly.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field preferred.
- Internship or prior construction field experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel between job sites and offices.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to sit for prolonged periods both at a desk and while driving or riding in a vehicle.
- Regularly required to tour active construction sites and must comply with Curran’s safety policies, including wearing and maintaining required PPE (e.g. hard hat, safety vest, eye protection, hearing protection, safety-toe footwear).
- Exposure to varying outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, dust) is common.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs of materials, equipment, or presentation items.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to safely operate a personal or company vehicle to and from job sites, meetings, and for other business purposes.

This role is targeting a range of $50-80k for a seasoned professional and is eligible for the company's incentive bonus program.
